China anticipates a record-breaking year for air travel in 2024, with passenger numbers expected to exceed pre-pandemic levels. According to the State Council, the country projects that air passenger trips will reach approximately 700 million this year, surpassing the 619.6 million trips recorded in 2023.

In the first half of 2024, total passenger trips increased by nine percent compared to the same period in 2019, signaling a strong recovery in the aviation sector. Song Zhiyong, head of the Civil Aviation Administration, announced these expectations at the Asia Pacific Summit for Aviation Safety. The forecast reflects a robust rebound in air travel, showcasing China’s resilience and growth in the aviation industry.
