International travel has nearly returned to pre-pandemic levels, with new data revealing a significant rebound. According to the latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the volume of international visitors has reached 85% of pre-COVID levels, reflecting a robust recovery in global travel.

In the past year, Indonesia emerged as the leading destination for Australians, with 1.5 million trips recorded between 2023 and 2024. This figure represents a dramatic surge compared to New Zealand, which saw a fourfold lower increase in visitor numbers. Alongside Indonesia and New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States were also among the top destinations for short-term travel.

Looking ahead, the travel industry anticipates continued growth as international travel stabilizes and expands further.
