China is on track to become the world’s largest air travel market by 2043, according to a new report from Boeing Co. The U.S. aerospace giant forecasts that China’s commercial jet fleet will more than double over the next 20 years, driven by both expansion and fleet replacement needs.

Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook, released Tuesday, projects that China will require a total of 8,830 new aircraft by 2043. This figure includes 6,720 narrowbody jets, such as the 737 Max, to accommodate the anticipated growth in travel demand and to replace aging aircraft. The report highlights that 60% of these new planes will be allocated for growth, while 40% will replace existing models.
