WASHINGTON, Aug 29 (Reuters) — Despite a record number of summer travelers and significant disruptions in July linked to cybersecurity issues, U.S. airlines have maintained a relatively low flight cancellation rate this year. According to the Transportation Department, airlines have canceled just 1.6% of all flights in 2024.
The cancellation rate, reported through Tuesday, slightly exceeds the 1.5% rate observed in 2023 but remains lower than any other year since 2017, when the rate was 1.4%.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced last week that U.S. summer travel has reached unprecedented levels, with predictions of record passenger numbers for the upcoming Labor Day weekend, marking the end of the summer travel season.
