This year’s edition of The Washington Post’s Travel Photo Contest celebrates 25 years of stunning travel imagery from our readers, featuring captivating scenes ranging from Atlantic puffins and Brazilian festivities to Italian seaside leisure.
Over the past quarter-century, our contest has showcased extraordinary photographs, from the icy expanses of Antarctica to the scenic beauty of the D.C. area, illustrating that remarkable sights can be found both far and near.
This year’s standout images include intimate portraits of nature and wildlife: a puffin in mid-flight, a bear stretching before a nap, and a vibrant confrontation with a neon clownfish.
Our team meticulously reviewed over 1,000 submissions to select the most striking photographs. We are pleased to present the three winners and 12 honorable mentions, along with personal anecdotes from the photographers about their experiences and inspirations behind the shots.
