ACT-Wazalendo Urges Withdrawal of Zanzibar’s Mandatory Travel Insurance Policy

Mary

The opposition party ACT-Wazalendo in Zanzibar is calling for the repeal of the newly implemented mandatory travel insurance policy, which is scheduled to take effect in three weeks.

In an interview with The Citizen, ACT-Wazalendo’s Vice Chairman, Ismail Jussa Ladhu, criticized the policy for its lack of sufficient stakeholder consultation and potential detrimental effects on Zanzibar’s tourism industry.

“From ACT-Wazalendo’s perspective, this travel insurance policy should be retracted due to its anticipated negative impact on tourism,” Mr. Jussa said. “The policy, as currently proposed, will render Zanzibar a more expensive destination and has already attracted unfavorable international media attention.”
