American Airlines is set to expand its international reach with the introduction of five new trans-Atlantic routes in 2025, including the resumption of service between Edinburgh and Philadelphia, a route it last operated in 2019.
Starting May 23, 2025, American Airlines will reinstate daily flights between Edinburgh and Philadelphia. This marks one of several new routes the airline is launching next year.
Additionally, on March 30, 2025, American will commence flights between Chicago and Madrid. A new route connecting Charlotte, North Carolina, and Athens, Greece, will begin on June 5, bringing the airline’s total number of daily flights to Greece to four in 2025.
The airline is also expanding its Italian network with a new daily service from Miami to Rome Fiumicino Airport, starting July 5. This will make Miami the sixth U.S. airport with direct flights to the Italian capital. Furthermore, American will initiate daily flights between Philadelphia and Milan Malpensa Airport on May 23.
With the addition of flights from Milan and Edinburgh to Philadelphia, American Airlines will offer a total of 17 trans-Atlantic services from Philadelphia, connecting travelers to over 80 destinations across the United States.
Seasonal routes to Copenhagen, Naples, and Nice, which were launched in 2024, are also expected to return in the summer of 2025.
The airline will increase the frequency of its Dallas-Fort Worth to Barcelona service to daily on March 30, 2025, alongside the Philadelphia to Athens route. Additionally, the Philadelphia to Naples service will become daily on May 5, and the Miami to Paris Charles de Gaulle route, previously seasonal during the winter, will extend into the summer of 2025.
Tickets for these new routes will be available for purchase starting September 9 through the American Airlines website and mobile app.
