The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) has unveiled its Christmas and New Year’s Leave Travel Program for 2024, encouraging early planning for those wishing to reunite with loved ones during the holiday season.

This year, the program will operate at a reduced capacity compared to previous years due to ongoing operational demands, according to a recent CANFORGEN announcement. The leave program will be in effect from December 14, 2024, through January 4, 2025.

CANFORGEN 133/24 explains that the program aims to facilitate the reunion of CAF personnel and their immediate families within Canada using Department of National Defence (DND) aircraft. Despite the reduction in services, the CAF has committed to maintaining the capacity needed to support priority passengers.

Eligible participants include Regular Force, Class B and Class C Reserve Force personnel, as well as military members from the United States, NATO, and Commonwealth forces on exchange with the CAF who are separated from their dependents due to service requirements. Additionally, the program extends to all Regular Force, Class B and Class C Reserve personnel from these nations who wish to visit their next of kin.
