Travel Portland is set to revitalize its presence in the Australian and New Zealand markets with a comprehensive trade program aimed at re-establishing key industry connections and organizing familiarization trips for agents. This initiative coincides with the Visit USA Expos in both countries.
Heather Anderson, Director of International Tourism Administration at Travel Portland, expressed enthusiasm about the re-entry into the Australian market following a pandemic-induced hiatus. “We are thrilled to return to Australia at this time, as Portland reasserts itself as a dynamic and appealing U.S. destination,” Anderson said.
Portland, the largest city in Oregon and situated in the Pacific Northwest, boasts a population of 2.3 million. Known for its commitment to sustainability, bike-friendliness, and proximity to nature, the city offers a wealth of experiences, including diverse dining options, vibrant arts scenes, craft breweries, and live music. Its culture celebrates creativity and individuality.
Travel Portland has re-appointed Sydney-based boutique PR firm, Barking Owl Communications, as its official destination marketing partner. Jill Collins, owner of Barking Owl Communications, expressed optimism about the renewed collaboration. “We look forward to another successful partnership. Our previous work together significantly increased awareness of Portland through innovative consumer and trade initiatives, focusing on the city’s ‘makers’ culture,” Collins noted.
The renewed engagement will commence with a foundational trade program designed to re-establish Portland’s presence with key industry partners, with potential for broader future initiatives. Jill Collins will oversee the account, supported by Rebecca George, who joins the Travel Portland account team as Trade Manager. George, a seasoned sales and marketing professional with 20 years in the travel industry, previously collaborated with Barking Owl on projects such as Tourism Oita.
