The UK Government has unveiled plans to expand its Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme, which affects both businesses inviting visitors and individuals traveling to or transiting through the UK. The expansion will occur in two phases, with significant changes scheduled for January and April 2025.
Since its initial rollout on November 15, 2023, the ETA scheme has been gradually introduced. The next phases of the expansion will commence on January 8, 2025, and April 2, 2025. By April 2025, the ETA will be required for all non-visa nationals entering the UK who do not already have UK immigration permission or an exemption from immigration control.
The ETA costs £10 and is valid for two years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. For further details on the ETA basics, please refer to our previous article.
