The COVID-19 pandemic previously inflicted severe disruptions on international travel for both the US and Canada, leading to dramatic declines in overseas trips. In 2020, international travel from the US plummeted by 76% compared to the previous year, while Canadian outbound travel fell by 74%.
By 2022, signs of recovery began to emerge, with international travel from both countries rebounding significantly. As of today, the resurgence in travel, driven by pent-up demand and the lifting of pandemic-related restrictions, has not only restored but in some cases exceeded pre-pandemic levels, particularly in the US.
