The TA Travel Center in Corning, California, a key local employer, will close its doors permanently next month, affecting nearly 45 employees. Situated just east of Interstate 5 at South Avenue, the truck stop provides essential services such as food, shower facilities, and overnight truck parking.
Efforts by Action News Now to obtain a comment from TA’s corporate office regarding the closure have gone unanswered. However, multiple employees have indicated that financial difficulties are the primary reason for the shutdown.
Frequent customer Mike Phister expressed his surprise, stating, “This is a good stop. I didn’t even know it was closing. It’s too bad because this is probably my last time here.” Another traveler, Steve Hannon, who was journeying from San Francisco to Vancouver, also reacted with surprise: “I’m actually quite surprised. Every facility we’ve been in along the West Coast seems to be doing quite well in terms of foot traffic and cars.”
The TA Travel Center is one of three truck stops in Corning, alongside Love’s Travel Center directly across the street and the Petro truck stop, which features the Iron Skillet restaurant. Its proximity to Rolling Hills Casino, just two and a half miles away, has made it a popular pit stop for truckers and travelers on Interstate 5.
