BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) – Following the recent conclusion of the Paris Olympic Games, the enthusiasm for sports among the Chinese populace has sparked a significant surge in travel and spending during the National Day holiday, which runs from October 1 to 7. A notable influx of visitors has been reported at various sports venues, where many are participating in or attending diverse sporting events.

One notable example is a saddle club in Changchun, the capital of Jilin Province in northeast China, where reservations have doubled to over 100 equestrian courses per day. “In addition to locals bringing their children for equestrian lessons, many tourists and horse enthusiasts from other regions of China are visiting for horse riding,” said club manager Zhang Jianpeng.

Among those taking advantage of the holiday was Wang Tianyu, who practiced controlling the reins and jumping over obstacles under the guidance of a coach. “I want to use the holiday to enhance my equestrian skills while enjoying the autumn scenery and local cuisine. This experience has been particularly fulfilling and enjoyable,” Wang, who hails from Henan Province, stated.

In August, China’s State Council released guidelines aimed at promoting high-quality development in service consumption. These guidelines emphasize the expansion of sports facilities, the encouragement of diverse sporting events, and the deepening of pilot projects designed to stimulate spending related to sports.

While iconic attractions such as the Forbidden City and the Great Wall continue to draw visitors in Beijing, new hotspots have emerged during the holiday. The National Tennis Center and Shougang Park have become popular destinations due to the ongoing 2024 China Open and the World Table Tennis China Smash, attracting numerous tennis and table tennis fans. Notable Olympic champions, including Zheng Qinwen and Sun Yingsha, have drawn significant attention at these events.
