SkyTeam has announced a new partnership with Italy’s national rail operator, Trenitalia, enabling passengers to seamlessly transition from air travel to high-speed rail. This innovative service allows travelers flying from New York to Rome, as well as other origins served by SkyTeam members, to continue their journeys on a single ticket, exploring Italy’s picturesque landscapes without the hassle of separate bookings.
The announcement was made at the World Aviation Festival in Amsterdam, highlighting SkyTeam’s commitment to integrated and sustainable travel solutions. This partnership follows a similar collaboration between SkyTeam and Eurostar, aimed at enhancing travel options across Europe.
The new initiative will facilitate a streamlined booking process, allowing travelers to combine air and rail segments in one reservation. Once all necessary government approvals are obtained, passengers arriving in Rome or Milan can easily collect their luggage and board Trenitalia’s high-speed Frecciarossa trains to continue their Italian adventures.
Patrick Roux, CEO of SkyTeam, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “Working with Trenitalia enhances our intermodal travel strategy, providing more high-quality, high-speed rail connections. Italy is a crucial market for both business and leisure travelers, and this collaboration gives customers greater choice and flexibility in their travel plans.”
Mario Alovisi, CEO of Italia Loyalty at Trenitalia, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “We’re thrilled to collaborate with SkyTeam to expand our network and deliver seamless travel experiences for international passengers.”
