YHA Australia has announced the establishment of a charitable foundation aimed at enabling disadvantaged young people to pursue their travel aspirations, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Launched last week, the Travel Learning Foundation plans to collaborate with schools and community organizations while partnering with established tourism businesses to subsidize travel expenses for those unable to participate otherwise. The foundation aims to facilitate tours, workshops, events, and activities that enrich educational experiences.
Recent research from Smith Family highlights that rising living costs are causing four in ten Australian parents to worry their children will miss out on essential educational opportunities outside the classroom, with one in three concerned about their kids missing school excursions due to financial constraints.
The foundation was inaugurated during a ceremony held atop YHA Sydney Harbour. Paul McGrath, CEO of YHA Australia, emphasized, “At YHA Australia, we believe travel can change lives.” He added, “The Travel & Learn Foundation was created to provide young people with opportunities for meaningful travel experiences that foster personal growth, education, and confidence.”
In the coming years, the foundation will focus on offering scholarships and programs that help youth acquire new skills, engage with diverse communities, and develop a global perspective. Additionally, it will support funding for higher and vocational education for individuals in remote areas, particularly those facing employment challenges in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
