Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports has announced that the previously named “landing fee” will be rebranded as a “travel tax,” set to take effect around mid-2025 for air travelers. The fee will amount to 300 baht (approximately $8.88) for foreigners arriving by air.
Minister Sorawong Thiantong revealed on Wednesday that the proposed tax law will be presented to the cabinet for approval in the first quarter of next year. Following approval, the travel tax is expected to be implemented within six months, marking its debut with air arrivals.
Originally approved in principle by the cabinet in February of last year, the “Kha Yeap Pan Din” (fee to set foot on Thai soil) aims to generate funds primarily for insurance coverage for foreign visitors. The remaining revenue will be allocated to a tourism development fund, which will support enhancements to tourist attractions, including facilities for individuals with disabilities and improved restroom facilities for travelers.
