Travel Expert Discusses New Airline Refund Requirements Amid Busy Holiday Season

New federal regulations aimed at simplifying the refund process for canceled flights came into effect this week, ensuring that airlines make it easier for ticketed passengers to receive refunds following flight cancellations or significant changes.

As millions of Americans prepare to travel for the upcoming holiday season, travel expert Katy Nastro shared her insights on the new rules implemented by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

“Flight disruptions can be incredibly stressful. The frustration of navigating refunds, especially when opting not to have an airline rebook your flight, adds to that stress,” Nastro told Good Morning America. “With the busy travel season approaching, these new DOT regulations feel like an early gift for travelers. Now, passengers can expect refunds to be processed to their payment method within seven business days, a significant improvement from the weeks or even months many have experienced in the past.”
