Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad has taken a significant step toward enhancing sustainable travel with the launch of a free electric shuttle bus service. Designed to improve passenger convenience while promoting eco-friendly transportation, these shuttles are a blend of modernity and sustainability.
The electric buses feature spacious 2×2 seating arrangements, automatic ramps for easy access, and pneumatic dual doors with finger protection systems, ensuring safety and accessibility, including for individuals with special needs. CCTV cameras provide added security, making the shuttle ride a safe and comfortable experience.
The shuttle service operates every 30 minutes, connecting Terminals 1 and 2, though it pauses overnight from 11 PM to 3 AM. Passengers can enjoy air-conditioned interiors with advanced bacterial filtration systems, ensuring a clean and healthy environment. The buses are also equipped with free Wi-Fi, 24-inch screens, premium sound systems, and digital clocks, providing seamless connectivity and entertainment while traveling between terminals.
This new electric shuttle initiative aligns with the airport’s commitment to sustainability. By switching to electric vehicles, the airport aims to reduce its carbon footprint, cutting an estimated 20 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. Additionally, the service is projected to save approximately 7,500 litres of fossil fuels each year. This eco-friendly transportation move reflects a growing trend among international airports to adopt green technologies and reduce their environmental impact.
The introduction of electric shuttles at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport sets a new standard for Indian aviation, combining environmental responsibility with passenger comfort. In a country grappling with urbanization and climate challenges, such innovations highlight the potential of green technology to transform the travel experience and address environmental concerns.
