Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on Monday, as snow is expected to accumulate, with up to 10 centimetres possible in Toronto.
The snow is expected to begin Monday morning, with a more significant snowstorm arriving in the evening before tapering off later at night. The advisory covers Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, and Brampton, where five to 10 centimetres of snow are expected, along with the potential for freezing drizzle. Areas east of Georgian Bay, including Orillia, Bracebridge, and Parry Sound, could see up to 20 centimetres of snow.
Drivers are warned of hazardous travel conditions on highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots, with reduced visibility as the heavy snow moves in.
Monday’s forecast predicts a high of 0°C, with winds from the south at 20 kilometres per hour making it feel like -15°C during the morning. Tuesday is expected to remain cold with a daytime high of 0°C and a 40 percent chance of flurries. The nighttime temperature will drop to -4°C.
While a white Christmas seems unlikely for the GTA, Environment Canada predicts a mix of sun and cloud on Wednesday, with temperatures reaching a high of 1°C and a low of -3°C.
