As Christmas Eve approaches, at least 13 states are under winter weather advisories, with much of the U.S. preparing for snow. In Alaska, residents are bracing for up to eight inches of snow, accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of up to 45 mph. The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned drivers to slow down and stay safe in these hazardous conditions.
Downeast Maine could see up to eight inches of snow, while coastal areas are under a winter storm warning.
Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor, which connects Washington D.C. to Boston, experienced significant delays due to power signal issues. The company has canceled some services and has not yet provided a timeline for regular operations to resume.
Winter weather also caused over 300 flight delays across major airports, including Logan in Boston, JFK and LaGuardia in New York, and Chicago’s O’Hare.
