Australia’s Passport Fees Set for Another Increase Starting January 1

by Mary

Australia already boasts the world’s most expensive passport, and starting January 1, 2025, the cost will rise even further.

In a move to boost government revenue, the price of a 10-year passport increased by 15%—or $52—on July 1, 2024, bringing the total cost to $398. This hike was part of a one-off measure by the federal government, on top of the usual annual price adjustments tied to inflation.

Though the government has not officially announced the new passport prices, it’s expected that the cost for a 10-year passport will increase by approximately $11. This means Australians will pay around $409 for a standard 10-year passport starting in the new year.

For children under 16, and those over 75 who opt for a five-year passport, the current price is $201. That fee is also expected to rise by around $6, bringing it to approximately $207.

With these price hikes, Australia’s passport remains one of the priciest in the world, and the increase will add further costs for travelers in 2025.
