Over 20 flights scheduled to depart from Gatwick Airport today have been cancelled in advance, with passengers warned to expect delays. The disruption is caused by dense fog, which has led to temporary air traffic restrictions due to poor visibility.
A Gatwick spokesperson confirmed the situation, saying, “Temporary air traffic restrictions have been put in place due to fog causing poor visibility. Some flights may be delayed throughout the day. London Gatwick apologises for any inconvenience. Passengers should contact their airline for further information.”
Yesterday, thick fog enveloped the West Sussex airport, reducing visibility to as little as 200 metres at times, according to FlightRadar24. However, visibility has since improved to 9,999 metres, allowing operations to resume more normally.
Other major airports, including Heathrow and Stansted, remain largely unaffected by the weather conditions today.
