The African Travel and Tourism Association (ATTA) has issued a travel advisory urging caution for those planning to visit Mozambique. The warning comes in light of ongoing protests in major cities across the country following the announcement of Daniel Chapo’s presidential victory, who secured 65% of the vote in the recent elections.
ATTA noted that while urban areas are experiencing significant disruptions due to the protests, coastal and remote regions, popular with tourists, are currently operating normally. These areas, known for their pristine beaches, world-class dive sites, and tropical islands, remain largely unaffected by the unrest.
Mozambique has been experiencing protest action since November, after the elections held in October, with tensions escalating following the Constitutional Council’s declaration of Chapo as the winner.
Kgomotso Ramothea, CEO of ATTA, advised travelers to exercise caution and navigate the situation carefully. He emphasized the importance of staying informed and being prepared for potential disruptions in the country’s urban centers.
Tourists planning to visit Mozambique are encouraged to stay updated on the latest travel advisories and check with local authorities for the most current information.
