Airlines Offer Flexibility Following Deadly Attack in New Orleans

by Mary

In response to a deadly terrorist attack in New Orleans on Wednesday, several airlines, including Southwest, American, United, and Delta, have announced waivers and flexible travel options for passengers flying to, from, or through the city.

The tragic incident occurred when a Texas man drove a truck into a crowd early Wednesday morning, resulting in at least 15 fatalities and over 30 injuries. Authorities later confirmed that the man, who also shot at officers before being killed, likely did not act alone. In the wake of the attack, the Sugar Bowl football game, which was scheduled to feature Georgia and Notre Dame, was rescheduled to Thursday.

Airlines quickly responded with travel flexibility options. Southwest Airlines announced that passengers with bookings to or from New Orleans could rebook or travel standby within 14 days of their original travel date without incurring additional charges. American Airlines offered fee-free changes for tickets purchased by New Year’s Day for travel between Wednesday and Friday. Delta Airlines issued a travel waiver for flights scheduled between January 1-3, allowing affected customers to change flights or cancel for a flight credit.

Delta’s waiver specifically mentioned that the “security situation in New Orleans” could impact travel, and the airline is offering flexibility to those affected.

As New Orleans continues to recover from this devastating event, airlines are working to accommodate passengers and ease the disruption caused by the tragic incident.
