As Japan continues to attract a steady stream of international visitors, major cities like Tokyo and Kyoto are struggling with overcrowding and rising costs, prompting Japan’s tourism board to encourage Australian travelers to consider less popular destinations.
Jacqui Keating, a travel agent from Smart Flyer, shared her concerns about the situation during an interview with Shane McInnes. She revealed that she has actively discouraged clients from visiting Tokyo, citing the overwhelming crowds and skyrocketing prices.
“It’s just been too busy, the prices have gone through the roof, and it’s not cheap anymore,” Keating explained, emphasizing that the appeal of Japan’s bustling capital is diminishing for some travelers.
As Japan faces the challenges of over-tourism, the tourism board hopes that visitors will explore lesser-known areas to enjoy a more authentic and relaxed experience.
