Jamaica, with its hidden coves, sparkling cliffs, lush “blue” mountains, and vibrant culture, is gearing up for an exciting winter season. Despite a slower second half of 2024, the island is expecting a strong rebound in 2025, with Jamaica’s Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett predicting the best winter season on record.
Strong Growth in Air Travel to Jamaica
According to Bartlett, Jamaica has secured nearly 180,000 additional air seats for the upcoming winter season, representing an increase from all major travel gateways. The boost includes an extra 74,000 seats from the United States, 78,000 from Canada, and 1,000 from the Caribbean market. This influx of flights is expected to bring more visitors to the island, particularly those eager to enjoy its renowned resorts and beautiful landscapes.
“The last time I looked at your numbers, you are now trending over 50 percent of the passengers who come through Norman Manley being tourists and visitors who come to stay at hotels across the island,” Bartlett stated.
Slower Summer Leads to More Affordable Hotel Stays
Though the summer months were slower than expected, hoteliers are optimistic about the upcoming peak season. This may present travelers with more attractive hotel options and better value for stays during the busy winter period. While total visitor numbers for 2024 haven’t been finalized, tourism officials are hopeful that the peak season will make up for the earlier slowdown.
Affordable Flights to Jamaica
For those planning a trip to Jamaica, airfare is more affordable than in previous years. Round-trip flights from Miami to Montego Bay are available for as low as $244 on Spirit Airlines and $326 on American Airlines. From New York, travelers can book flights on JetBlue from JFK to Montego Bay for approximately $417, or on United from Newark for about $486 roundtrip, according to Google Flights.
As the island prepares for a busy winter, Jamaica remains an enticing destination for travelers seeking an unforgettable vacation experience.
