Environment Canada Issues Snow Squall Warnings for Southern Ontario

by Mary

Southern Ontario is bracing for more snow on Wednesday as Environment Canada has issued warnings for snow squalls and hazardous travel conditions.

The weather alerts are primarily affecting areas near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, which are experiencing lake-effect snow, the national weather agency reports.

Snow squall warnings are in effect for regions east of Lake Huron, including London, Goderich, and Watford. Environment Canada predicts these areas could receive between 15 and 25 centimetres of snow by Wednesday evening. Higher snowfall amounts are possible if the snow squalls remain stationary in one area.

A winter weather travel advisory is also in effect for Barrie, Collingwood, Innisfil, Owen Sound, and St. Thomas, where 10 to 20 centimetres of snow are expected overnight through to Wednesday evening.

Drivers are being warned that travel could be hazardous due to reduced visibility from blowing snow and rapidly accumulating snow, which may worsen road conditions. Environment Canada advises, “Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.”

Last week, several snow squall warnings were issued for the same regions near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, with some areas seeing up to 80 centimetres of snow. The previous snow squall warnings for regions north of Toronto were lifted on Sunday after days of accumulating snow.
