Heavy rainfall over the weekend caused significant delays and disruptions to air travel at Singapore’s Changi Airport (SIN), affecting Singapore Airlines (SQ) and other carriers. The weather event, which occurred on January 10 and 11, resulted in the delay or rescheduling of more than 50 Singapore Airlines flights.
The storm began early on January 10 and continued into January 11, with the country recording 255.2mm of rainfall, according to Singapore’s Public Utilities Board (PUB). This amount exceeds the average monthly rainfall for January, which is 222.4mm.
The rainfall led to widespread delays at Changi Airport, causing significant congestion. As a result, many Singapore Airlines flights were rescheduled to manage the situation. The adverse weather also caused flooding and water ingress in various parts of Singapore, including high-rise buildings, which further disrupted travel plans.
Singapore Airlines apologized to affected passengers and reassured them that safety remained its top priority.
