Major airports, including Atlanta and Charlotte, North Carolina, continued to experience disruptions on Saturday due to lingering effects of Friday’s winter storm. As temperatures are expected to drop after sunset, there is growing concern that melting snow will refreeze, making roadways hazardous.
Scott Carroll, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Atlanta, warned that while some snow may melt, secondary roads will likely remain slushy. The colder temperatures later in the day will only worsen conditions, with clear skies making for even colder weather.
Despite flights continuing to operate, airlines were already reporting new cancellations and delays. By 10 a.m. Saturday, more than 300 flights had been canceled in and out of Atlanta, with over 250 delayed. In Charlotte, over 200 flights were canceled and more than 100 were delayed.
