Direct Metro Service Between Howrah and Sealdah to Cut Commuting Time

by Mary

Good news for Kolkata residents! Direct metro services between Howrah and Sealdah stations, two of the busiest stations on the Eastern Railway, are set to begin soon. These stations are part of Kolkata Metro’s Green Line, which currently operates in two sections: Green Line-1 (from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah) and Green Line-2 (from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan).

The new service will be a huge relief for thousands of passengers who travel daily between Sealdah and Howrah for business, education, and work. The journey will take just 11 minutes in an air-conditioned metro train, a significant reduction in travel time compared to the current 90-minute commute using overcrowded buses or taxis.

Metro officials involved in the design and planning of the project stated that the new service will be equivalent to running 72 air-conditioned buses per hour between Howrah and Sealdah, with one bus departing every 50 seconds from both stations. This development is expected to greatly ease the daily commute for residents and reduce pollution from slower, less efficient transportation options.
