The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) lifted the suspension on sea travel in Sorsogon on Wednesday, January 15, allowing vessels to resume normal operations.
Lieutenant Ronnie Esparagoza, the station commander of the Coast Guard in Sorsogon, announced the lifting of the suspension in the morning. The decision came after the shear line and gale-force wind warnings along the province’s coast were no longer in effect.
Since January 9, small vessels weighing 15 gross tons or less had been banned from sailing on the eastern coast of the province due to heavy rains caused by the shear line. On January 11, a new suspension order was issued by the PCG in response to the continuing gale warning, which affected all watercraft weighing 250 tons or less.
The province had been experiencing heavy rainfall for several days, caused by the shear line and gale warning. This led to flooding and landslides in several towns.
