Cork City Council has been allocated €28 million for 2025 under the National Transport Authority (NTA) Active Travel Investment grants scheme, although the news has sparked mixed reactions.
In addition to the €28 million for active travel, the city will receive €6,535,000 from other NTA funding sources, bringing the total allocation to €34,535,000.
While some have praised the funding as a significant investment, others view it as indicative of the ongoing neglect of Cork’s northside.
Among the notable projects receiving funding are €5.6 million for street renewal in the Mahon area, €5.2 million for the Lehenaghmore Road Improvement Scheme, and €2 million for the Marina Promenade Active Travel scheme.
Cork’s Lord Mayor, Green Party councillor Dan Boyle, expressed his gratitude for the funding, particularly thanking Transport Minister Eamon Ryan for his support.
