A blanket of dense fog has descended over much of Britain, sparking warnings from the Met Office of potential flight cancellations and train disruptions. The yellow weather warning covers southwest and central England, the Midlands, and parts of Yorkshire and the Humber, running until late Thursday morning.
In some areas, visibility is expected to drop below 100 meters, creating hazardous conditions on the roads and tracks. By dawn on Thursday, the fog is anticipated to thin out across parts of southern England and the southeast Midlands, though it may persist in a corridor from southwest England to Yorkshire until later in the morning.
The Met Office has advised drivers to check that their fog lights are working before heading out. The fog has already led to disruptions, including the abandonment of a football match in Lincolnshire after just seven minutes due to the poor visibility.
Following a year already impacted by storms, ice, and snow, many travelers are urged to prepare for further delays.
