Trailways of New York has introduced a pet-friendly travel policy, allowing small dogs and cats to accompany passengers on their bus trips. Starting less than a month ago, the service enables pets weighing up to 25 pounds, including their carrier, to travel for a $10 fee.
The carrier must be small enough to fit under the seat, with maximum dimensions of 18 inches long, 11 inches wide, and 9 inches high. Pets are required to remain in their carriers throughout the journey, ensuring safety and comfort for both passengers and animals.
Alex Berardi, president of Trailways.com, explained the decision, saying, “People really consider their cat or dog to be part of the family,” noting that many customers had requested the ability to travel with their pets.
To develop the new policy, Trailways took inspiration from other transportation providers, such as airlines, that have increasingly embraced pet-friendly practices. Airlines, for example, allow pets in soft-sided carriers in the cabin, and airports have introduced pet relief areas for travelers with animals.
With this new policy, Trailways joins a growing trend in travel, catering to pet owners who wish to bring their furry companions along on their journeys.
