ASEAN Tourism Ministers Focus on Policy Reforms & Combatting Tourist Scams

Tourism ministers from ASEAN countries recently convened to discuss strategies for boosting regional tourism, with a particular emphasis on simplifying cross-border travel to foster tourism growth within the bloc.

The 28th ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Meeting took place in Johor Bahru on January 19, where Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, highlighted the crucial role of tourism in the region’s economic development.

“We need to streamline policies to make it easier for tourists to visit. While we must remain vigilant on security, I believe this issue warrants further discussion among our countries,” Tiong said.

Addressing another major concern, Tiong also raised the issue of tourist scams, calling on ASEAN members to work together to tackle the problem. “We must find solutions to this issue that is currently affecting tourists,” he stressed.

The discussions at the meeting reflect the ASEAN countries’ commitment to fostering a more accessible and secure travel environment, aiming to further stimulate tourism across the region.
