The Maldives has experienced a notable rise in tourist arrivals at the beginning of 2025, further cementing its status as one of the world’s top travel destinations. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, January saw 214,000 international visitors, marking a 12% increase compared to the same month last year.
On average, 6,900 tourists arrived daily throughout January. This upward trend has continued into February, with early reports showing 233,000 visitors by the start of the month, pushing the daily average to 7,000.
Tourism officials highlight that this increase represents a 14% growth compared to early 2024, when 205,000 visitors had arrived by the same time. The surge in numbers reflects the ongoing global demand for the Maldives’ resorts, luxury accommodations, and unique island experiences.
Data from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment reveals that China is the leading source market for visitors in 2025, contributing about 40,000 tourists. The return of Chinese travelers follows the easing of travel restrictions and the expansion of flight connections between China and the Maldives.
