Allen County is under a Travel Watch Wednesday night due to freezing rain that has led to icy conditions on local roads.
The Allen County Office of Homeland Security issued the Travel Watch at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday. The freezing rain is causing immediate ice buildup on untreated roads, sidewalks, and parking lots.
A Travel Watch indicates that road conditions pose a threat to public safety, and only essential travel—such as commuting to work or responding to emergencies—is advised.
In addition to the Travel Watch, other counties in northeast Indiana are under a Travel Advisory as of 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. Indiana counties can issue two other travel levels: a Travel Advisory, which is the least severe, and a Travel Warning, which may restrict travel to emergency personnel only.
