Although U.S. President Donald Trump has postponed his tariff threats until March 4, Canadians are already reacting, and the impact on U.S. tourism could be significant.
The U.S. Travel Association predicts a 10% decline in Canadian visitors, which could result in billions of dollars in lost revenue.
“Even a 10% drop is substantial,” said Dr. Dooseon Jung, a tourism instructor at the College of New Caledonia. “Last year alone, 20.4 million Canadians visited the U.S., contributing 20.5 billion Canadian dollars to the American tourism industry. Popular destinations like California, Texas, and Arizona will likely feel the impact the most.”
With Canada being a major source of tourism revenue for the U.S., any decline in visitors could have widespread economic consequences.
