The Allan Labor Government is working to improve travel times and reduce congestion in Melbourne’s west by opening new lanes on the West Gate Freeway.
Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams announced that three new inbound express lanes will open next month, following resurfacing work and the installation of new barriers. These express lanes will run from the M80 Ring Road interchange to the West Gate Bridge.
The improvements are part of the West Gate Tunnel Project and aim to reduce traffic congestion by separating express lanes from the busy entry and exit ramps on Grieve Parade, Millers Road, and Williamstown Road.
Outbound express lanes will be introduced later this year, offering a direct route from Williamstown Road to the M80 Ring Road and Princes Freeway.
To manage traffic more effectively, a state-of-the-art traffic management system will monitor the freeway. The system will include electronic signs to alert drivers about lane closures or traffic diversions, improving safety and minimizing delays.
