Frontier Airlines is taking a bold step in its expansion plans by requesting permission to launch a new international route between Bogotá, Colombia, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. This marks the airline’s first move into South America, strengthening its Caribbean presence.
The proposed route would connect El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá with Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. If approved by Colombia’s Civil Aeronautics Authority (Aerocivil), Bogotá will become Frontier’s first South American destination.
This move aligns with Frontier’s strategy to offer affordable travel options in underserved markets. The announcement was first reported by Argentina-based news outlet Aviacionline and later shared widely on social media by Ishrion Aviation.
Twice-Weekly Flights with Modern Airbus Aircraft
Frontier plans to operate twice-weekly flights on the Bogotá-San Juan route using fuel-efficient Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft. These planes are designed to reduce operating costs, helping the airline keep ticket prices low while providing convenient travel options.
