Maryland Prepares for Winter Storm with Road Treatments and Patrols

by Mary

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has announced extensive preparations ahead of an incoming winter storm, which is expected to impact much of the state with accumulating snow starting Tuesday afternoon and continuing through Wednesday.

To combat the expected hazardous conditions, crews are actively pretreating roads with salt brine, which helps prevent the initial bonding of snow and ice to the pavement. This pre-treatment is part of MDOT SHA’s efforts to improve road safety during the storm.

Additionally, MDOT SHA is urging drivers to limit unnecessary travel throughout the duration of the storm to provide emergency crews with the space they need to effectively and efficiently clear roads. Emergency patrols will be deployed across the state to assist stranded motorists, manage accident cleanup, and remove any debris that may obstruct roadways.

By taking these steps, the Maryland Department of Transportation aims to mitigate the effects of the storm and ensure safer driving conditions for everyone.
