Crews Continue Snow Removal Efforts as Winter Storm Impacts Lexington

by Mary

Lexington’s Streets & Roads and Water Quality crews have been working non-stop throughout the day to treat roadways as snow continues to affect the area. These teams will stay on duty overnight, monitoring and treating streets as needed. Additional contractors are supporting the efforts by clearing neighborhood streets, removing downed trees and limbs, and helping with sidewalk snow removal in city-maintained areas.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Lexington until 7 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12. Snow is expected to change to rain and sleet tonight, with the possibility of freezing rain between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. tomorrow. Accumulation is not expected as temperatures are expected to rise slightly overnight. The warming air and ground temperatures have assisted in the effectiveness of treatment efforts. Rainfall is also helping to melt remaining snow on roads and clear sidewalks.

Currently, all roads are open and in good condition, with county roads fully cleared to pavement. Residents are reminded that previously treated roads may become slippery again during ongoing storms and may require additional treatment to stay clear. Travel should still be avoided if possible, as snow accumulation from earlier today and the risk of sleet and rain later make for hazardous travel conditions throughout the night.
