Milwaukee Mitchell Airport Plans Major Expansion for Business Aviation

by Mary

Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is planning a new facility to enhance its business and general aviation services, aiming to attract more private business travelers.

The proposed development will be located in the northeast corner of the airport campus, near the intersection of E. Layton Ave. and I-794. The goal is to replace older hangars with a modern complex designed to accommodate larger private jets, supporting both business and civilian aviation.

This area has long been dedicated to general aviation, which refers to non-commercial flights. Currently, the site holds just over a dozen hangars, but they are not large enough to house some of the bigger private aircraft, such as turbofan and turbojet jets, that are in use today.

In 2023, the airport hired aviation consulting firm Ricondo to create a redevelopment plan. The proposal includes more than two dozen new hangars, along with upgraded taxiways and better runway access to meet the needs of larger aircraft.

The airport is now seeking qualified developers to help bring this project to life.

“The development will result in more aircraft based at MKE, helping business aviation thrive in ways that haven’t been possible before,” said the airport in a newsletter to general aviation pilots.
