QantasLink Invests in New Aircraft for South Australia’s Regional Flights

by Mary

QantasLink is significantly enhancing its regional service in South Australia by introducing the larger Q400 aircraft to key regional destinations, including Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Mount Gambier, and Kangaroo Island. This change is part of the airline’s $400 million investment in 14 additional Q400s for its regional fleet, which will improve connectivity between regional Australia and major cities. Once the transition is complete, three Q400s will be based in South Australia, bringing more seats, faster flight times, and enhanced reliability.

In addition to the new aircraft, QantasLink is overhauling its beverage offerings. Starting in mid-March, eight new regional wines will be available on all QantasLink turboprop flights, including six wines from local South Australian wineries. This move aims to promote local tourism and support the South Australian economy, with over 3.5 million customers expected to enjoy these wines annually.

QantasLink CEO, Rachel Yangoyan, emphasized that this investment not only enhances the travel experience but also strengthens the airline’s commitment to regional communities. It is the first time the 74-seat Q400 aircraft will return to Adelaide in 10 years, with new routes to Mount Gambier and Whyalla.

Adelaide Airport’s managing director, Brenton Cox, highlighted that regional flights are crucial to local towns, supporting both essential services and tourism. The introduction of these larger aircraft will greatly benefit regional customers and bolster the tourism sector.
