Australia’s Pinnacle Travel Group, through its Rottnest Fast Ferries division, has commenced operations with its newest fast catamaran ferry, the Ocean Master.
Built by Austal Philippines, the Ocean Master is an all-aluminium vessel with a length of 32 meters, a beam of 10.3 meters, and a draught of just 1.41 meters. The ferry has a capacity for up to 400 passengers and five crew members, as well as ample cargo space for bicycles and luggage.
Passengers are seated across three decks, while storage for bicycles and luggage is available on two decks. The main deck features seating for 202 passengers, a large bar and kiosk area, and five toilets. The mid-deck offers seating for 143 passengers, including 68 on a spacious aft deck designed for protection from the elements.
The aft deck also provides access to the open-air sun deck, which has 56 seats.
Powered by two MAN D2862 1,029kW diesel engines and fixed-pitch propellers, the Ocean Master can operate at a speed of 25 knots, completing the 45-minute journey between Hillarys Boat Harbour in Perth and Rottnest Island. The vessel can reach a top speed of 28 knots.
