Ghana Introduces Visa-Free Travel for All African Passport Holders

by Mary

Ghana has launched a visa-free policy for all African passport holders, which took effect on January 1, 2025. This move positions the country as a leader in promoting pan-African unity and represents a significant step toward realizing the long-standing goal of seamless travel across the continent.

Outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo announced the policy in his final state-of-the-nation address, as reported by the BBC. “I am proud to have approved visa-free travel to Ghana for all African passport holders, effective from the start of this year,” Akufo-Addo said.

The president emphasized that this policy is a natural progression toward the African Continental Free Trade Area and the creation of the world’s largest trading bloc. By removing visa barriers, Ghana aims to boost trade, tourism, and cultural exchange among African nations, potentially driving economic growth and enhancing regional integration.
