American Express Global Business Travel (GBT), a leader in travel, expense management, and meetings & events software, has announced that the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has provisionally concluded that its proposed acquisition of a global business travel and solutions provider raises no competition concerns. A final decision from the CMA is expected by March 9, 2025.
GBT is also challenging a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in January 2025, which aims to block the acquisition through an injunction.
The company views the CMA’s updated provisional findings as a significant step forward in completing the deal, arguing that the DOJ’s lawsuit is based on outdated competition concerns and fails to consider the growing number of emerging competitors in the business travel industry.
If the acquisition proceeds, GBT expects it to drive investment and innovation in the business travel sector, providing more choices and better value for customers, suppliers, and employees.
