Nigeria’s transport sector is on the brink of a major transformation with the launch of the Lagos-Abuja High-Speed Bullet Train, which will cut travel time between the two cities from 12 hours to just 2–3 hours.
In a statement to journalists on Tuesday, Engineer Yinka Idris, Director of Operations at Geofocus Consortium, hailed the project as a milestone in the country’s development.
Idris praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for prioritizing infrastructure development and encouraging Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to drive economic growth. He emphasized that the bullet train would offer a faster, safer, and more efficient alternative to road travel.
“This project aligns with President Tinubu’s vision of leveraging private sector expertise to deliver world-class infrastructure without straining public finances,” Idris said. “Currently, travelers face long hours in traffic, safety concerns, and decreased productivity when traveling between Lagos and Abuja.”
The high-speed train is expected to significantly ease travel, boost trade, and improve the overall business environment. Additionally, as part of the initiative, ten smart cities, each with 10,000 housing units, will be developed along the rail corridor.
