New research from AAT Kings reveals that domestic travel will continue to dominate Australian travelers’ plans for 2025, with cost, convenience, and safety emerging as the top factors influencing decisions.
The study, which surveyed Australian holidaymakers aged 45 and older, uncovered shifting consumer preferences and the increasing importance of travel agents in booking trips.
According to the findings, 70% of Australians plan to prioritize domestic travel in the next year. Travelers are seeking flexible and hassle-free experiences, with many expressing an interest in off-the-beaten-path adventures that provide excitement without complexity.
When asked about the most important factors for domestic travel, 62.7% of respondents named cost as their top priority, appreciating the lower expenses of domestic trips compared to international travel.
Ben Hall, Group CEO of AAT Kings, commented, “Travelers are looking for authentic, curated experiences that offer flexibility and a sense of adventure, all while staying value-focused.” He added that the ongoing desire for local experiences, coupled with an emphasis on safety, reliability, and value, reflects the strong demand for domestic travel options in 2025.
