Myrtle Beach Airport Prepares for Surge in Passengers Ahead of Spring Break

by Mary

With spring break just around the corner, TSA officials at Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) are gearing up for a record-breaking travel season. Last year, the airport made history by welcoming over 3 million passengers, and this year, TSA expects even higher numbers.

Passenger traffic is set to nearly double by the end of March, with daily travelers increasing from 2,500 to 4,000. By summer, the number is predicted to triple, reaching around 12,000 passengers a day. To ensure smooth travel through security, TSA officials are working closely with airlines to manage resources and ensure efficient processing.

Regional TSA Spokesperson Mark Howell emphasized the importance of passengers preparing ahead to avoid delays. “We’re going to do our best, working with the airlines to project what we’re going to see coming through and to make sure we have the resources available for those folks to get through security as quickly as possible,” Howell said.

Travelers are reminded to follow security guidelines, including restrictions on items such as self-defense weapons and liquids over 3.4 ounces in carry-on luggage. Howell noted that many security issues stem from forgotten items in bags. “We want passengers to really pay attention to what they’re bringing with them to the airport. That’s their way that they can help us keep those wait times low,” Howell said.

TSA advises passengers to check in early and arrive at the airport at least two hours before their flight to ensure timely clearance through security.
